New 12" Caleb sculpted by Linda Smith Reborned by Diane Robinson DollylaneRebonrsandSupplies.com
New 6" Little Mini Bunny (Emmie), Molly (Teddy Bear) and Asher (Puppy).
Rooting hair is one of the most effective ways for creating a very life-like baby. When done well it looks just like the baby grew the hair with each little follicle poking through her gentle skin. This art form is called micro-rooting. Effective micro-rooting requires a high quality fine needle that will grab only a few hairs at a time. The needle must be very strong and very fine in order to do this.
38G 6 barbs NEEDLES
A great fine-gauge rooting or felting needle. It has 6 barbs so it can pick up as much hair as you want it to. If you want to do ultra-micro rooting, simply use only the end barbs and work through just a few strands of hair as you root.
Using these needles, you want to be careful not to bend or flex them, as they break more easily than rooting needles with fewer barbs. However, they leave a smaller hole, and if you are careful not to "grab" too much hair as you root, you can do a fine job of micro-rooting with this needle. It works well with my mushroom handled rooting tool. Pricing 6 needles-$6.99

The first micro-rooting needle to hit the market, they can easily be cut with wire cutters or small bolt cutters to fit the wooden mushroom handled tools, or they can be used intact in the plastic mushroom tool which I also sell.
Because they only have 3 barbs, they will literally only pick up a couple hairs at a time. Yes, it's slow going but the results are worth it. They are also the strongest needles I sell. I can literally root 5-6 doll heads and wear out the barbs before I snap a needle, when used properly (not flexing or bending the needle).

These are not at all like the felting needles with barbs that we are used to using. This needle has a tiny groove down to the end of the needle which picks up literally ONE hair at a time. This is why they are called forked needles. They are quite strong, despite their delicate appearance, and I rarely have one break.
Tip By Stephanie Sullivan;
I've found that you should rotate the needle til you find the "sweet spot" that picks up hair and then mark that position on the handle. If you allow the needle to rotate while you root, you'll stop picking up hair. I suggest you use a magnifying glass to find the fork on the end of the needle and keep it at the "7:00" (or pointing at your left shoulder if you're right handed) position as you root, inserting the needle perpendicular to the hair strands. This is the needle that rooted the hair on the Best In Show Doll by Petra Seiffert at the First Annual Reborn Competition at Las Vegas. You better believe I chased these folks down and begged for some of those needles once I saw the rooting job on that doll.
